Weekly Deals Roundup: 7 Funding Deals and One Acquisition

African startups had another active week, with seven funding announcements and one acquisition recorded between July 13 and July 17, 2026.

According to Klari's database, startups announced $11.15 million in disclosed funding across five African markets, while one startup announced its acquisition by a US company.

Although Nigeria recorded the highest number of funding announcements, South Africa attracted the most capital, highlighting how a single large deal can shape a week's funding landscape.

By the numbers

  • 🚀 7 funding announcements
  • 💰 $11.15 million in disclosed funding
  • 🤝 1 acquisition
  • 🌍 5 countries
  • 🏢 7 sectors represented
  • 🇳🇬 Nigeria recorded the highest number of deals
  • 🇿🇦 South Africa attracted the highest disclosed funding

South Africa tops the funding chart

South Africa announced just one funding deal during the week, but it was enough to lead the continent by capital raised.

AI-powered customer experience platform Cue secured $5 million, the largest disclosed funding round announced during the week.

The round accounted for nearly 45% of all disclosed funding tracked by Klari between July 13 and July 17.

Nigeria leads by activity

Nigeria remained Africa's busiest startup ecosystem this week, accounting for almost half of all announced funding deals.

Three Nigerian startups announced funding:

  • Codar raised $1.5 million
  • Noma secured $650,000
  • Mathesis Analytics announced a funding round, although the amount was not publicly disclosed

While none of the individual rounds matched Cue's raise, Nigeria continued to demonstrate a healthy pipeline of startup activity across different sectors.

Egypt and Morocco also attracted capital

Elsewhere on the continent:

  • Egypt's Mylerz raised $2 million to support its logistics operations.
  • ORA Technologies secured $2 million to bring its Series A round to $10 million as it continues building Morocco's digital consumer ecosystem.

Together, the week's deals reflected investor interest across North, West and Southern Africa.

One acquisition signals continued ecosystem activity

Beyond fundraising, the week also saw one acquisition, reinforcing that growth in Africa's startup ecosystem isn't measured by funding alone.

The acquisition is of Egypt's startup Stakpak by US developer tools and cloud infrastructure provider Vercel.

Vercel also announced the acquisition of Better Auth, a framework-agnostic authentication startup founded by Ethiopian Bereket Engida, last week.

Funding reached six sectors

The week's funding activity spanned a diverse mix of industries, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Customer Experience
  • Logistics
  • Fintech
  • Agritech
  • Super Apps

Rather than concentrating capital in one vertical, investors continued backing startups solving problems across multiple sectors of the digital economy.

The week in summary

Seven funding deals. One acquisition. Five countries — Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia — featured in this week's startup activity.

Funding reached a broad mix of sectors, including logistics, EdTech, Agritech, customer service AI, payments, manufacturing, and digital commerce, underscoring continued investor interest across different parts of Africa's technology ecosystem.

Another notable trend is the continued use of debt financing. While equity remains the dominant funding instrument, debt is increasingly becoming part of African startups' fundraising playbook, giving founders more financing options as they scale without immediately diluting ownership.

Nigeria also maintained the momentum it built in the first half of the year. After recording the highest number of funding deals in H1 2026, the country once again led the continent by deal activity this week, announcing three funding rounds.

While South Africa attracted more capital thanks to Cue's $5 million raise, Nigeria's consistent pipeline of deals reinforces its position as one of Africa's most active startup ecosystems.
